Back to it!

What a great Labor Day weekend!  It was sunny and warm, we had a great time of worship on Sunday, and an extra day to sleep in (except when you wake up at 5:30am to go catch some salmon).  For those of you who have kids in public school, today is the first day of classes.  It just so happens to be my oldest daughter’s first day of kindergarten.  While she is excited to finally start school, my anxiety is shooting up because my family is starting a new chapter in our life and have to adjust as well as reorganize a lot of our daily activities.  Do you remember when your kid started school and all the things going through your mind?  Well, not only is my daughter starting school today, my wife also starts classes over at KVCC.  We are busy!

I got into the office a little earlier this morning to help alleviate some of the tension in today’s schedule.  As I sat down at my desk, I opened my Bible to John 13.  Go ahead and open your Bible and read the chapter.

As you read, this is the chapter where Jesus washes his disciples’ feet and shares one last meal with them before he is arrested and crucified.  While I have read this chapter multiple times and have pulled some really significant insights from the text, there was one verse that stood out to me.  This is one of those verses that is easy to skip over and not notice, but this morning it jumped off the page, and I haven’t been able to think much about anything else.

John 13:1 – “Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father.  Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.”

Jesus showed them the full extent of his love.  This is not referring to just the foot washing, but really the whole scene of what is about to take place.  He showed the extent of his love through his arrest, trials, flogging, death, burial, and his resurrection.  He shows the full extent of his love and in verse 34 he requests one more thing from his disciples.  “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Not a lot more for me to say.  This is huge!
