I was
reading through Colossians 3 this morning and thought it good for all of us to
remember to put it into practice:
Colossians 3:12-17 –
“Therefore, as
God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion,
kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have
against one another. Forgive as the Lord
forgave you. And over all these virtues
put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of
Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to
peace. And be thankful. Let the world of Christ dwell in you richly
as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms,
hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or in
deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through him.”
After reading that, I had to ask myself:
-
Am I “bearing”
with others well?
-
Have I actually
forgiven ANY and ALL “grievances” I have towards a fellow brother or sister in
the faith? Those who are part of this local church or in another?
-
Is Christ’s peace
ruling my heart (see Philippians 4:6-7 if you want to know how)?
I would like to encourage all who read
this to take some time this week and admonish/build up those around you,
showing gratitude. The challenge,
however, is to do this to those whom you normally do not. That means encourage someone other than the
few people you sit with at church.
Admonish someone in the church that you do not talk to on a regular
basis, or haven’t seen in a while.
